    At Ashtanga Yoga Shala, we carry forward the authentic teachings of Aṣhṭāṅga Vinyāsa Yoga, passed down through Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and guided in Australia by Iain and Richard Clark. More than just exercise, this practice is a path of discipline, breath, and self-discovery that helps dissolve physical, mental, and emotional barriers.

    Our classes, held in Paddington and Sunnybank, offer students the chance to learn in a supportive community, guided by teachers with over 20 years of experience and a direct lineage to this living tradition.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    • I’ve never done yoga before. Can I still join?

    Yes. All new students begin with our Step 1 – 5 Week Introductory Series, designed to give beginners the foundations of Ashtanga Yoga in a supportive environment.

    • Do I Need to book before coming to class?

    Yes. To keep classes personal and supportive, we ask all students—especially beginners—to book in advance.

    • I’m not flexible. Will I be able to do this?

    Absolutely. Flexibility is not a requirement. The practice meets you where you are, and over time, you’ll build strength, mobility, and breath awareness.

    • What locations do you teach at?

    We currently hold classes in Paddington (10 Moreton St) and Sunnybank (Brisbane Southside). Both studios have a welcoming, long-standing community atmosphere.

    • Can I start midway through a course?

    No. To ensure everyone has a solid foundation, new students begin at the start of the Step 1 course. This way, the whole group progresses together.

    • Do you offer trial classes?

    We don’t offer casual drop-ins for beginners. The Step 1 series is the best way to experience the practice and learn the essentials.

    • Who teaches the classes?

    Classes are led by Richard Clark, who has more than 20 years’ experience and direct lineage training from Sri K. Pattabhi Jois via Iain Clark.

    • What should I bring to class?

    Wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat if you have one (mats can also be provided). It’s best not to eat heavily before practice.
