Step 1 Class is formatted to meet the needs of both complete beginners,  those with past yoga experience but new to Ashtanga Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga Students from other schools who have relocated to Brisbane and students returning after a long break from practice.

Sunnybank Ashtanga Yoga Studio is a peaceful haven and a inspiring, supportive space, in which to learn, develop and explore an authentic yoga practice.

Classes offered weekly: Ashtanga Yoga Shala – ‘Step 1 Class Series’ and Ashtanga Yoga Mysore classes.

Getting started:  it's easy!

  • If you're pregnant please contact us first before attending any yoga class to discuss the suitability of these yoga classes with a teacher.
  • We do not offer a trial yoga class or a casual yoga class rates.
  • Yoga Teachers/Yoga trainee teachers must contact the Ashtanga Yoga Shala, via email, before attending any classes, and request permission to attend the Ashtanga Yoga Shala classes.  Confirmation will be fowarded to you via email.

Step 1 Class:

Begins the journey of the Ashtanga Yoga practice. 'Step 1 Classes' - a small, group class taught with warmth and clarity setting the template from which your yoga practice will be constructed.

This is a guided class designed to introduce newcomers to Ashtanga yoga as well as those experienced in other styles of Yoga, to the basic principles of Ashtanga Yoga.

The purpose of the Step 1 class is to establish important fundamentals of ashtanga yoga. Even if you have experience in other styles of yoga, it’s important to begin here, in order to learn the basic principles and qualities of the Ashtanga Yoga practice.

Whilst we do encourage a reasonable level of fitness, you need not be strong or flexible to begin - we'll show you how.

You do need  to be able to move with ease from a standing to a sitting position.

Step 1 students at Sunnybank are required to book into classes.

After the initial 4 x week Step 1 Series program, students can book into another 4 x week program to build confidence and familiarity with the principles, or move into a 'Mysore Style Class' if they have completed the program requirements and feel ready.

Pre-requisite: completion of the work for Ashtanga Yoga Shala Step 1 Class and completed practice Manual. (this applies to all students including even experienced students from other schools)
