İAshtanga Yoga Shala 2006-2008
This is a guided class designed to introduce newcomers to Ashtanga Yoga. Whilst we do encourage a reasonable level of fitness, you need not be strong or flexible to begin - we'll show you how.
The purpose of Step 1 is to establish important fundamentals of Ashtanga Yoga practise including a suitable selection of postures from 'yoga chikitsa' (the primary series ashtanga sequence), vinyasa, bandhas, drishtis and ujjayi breathing.
So even if you have experience in other styles of yoga it's important to begin here, in order to learn the initial sequencing of postures for primary series Ashtanga Yoga.
Please bring a towel to class and your own yoga mat if you have one. Mats are also available in class for hire and purchase.
Please read both the class information and payment options sections below before attending class.
Mysore, India is known internationally as the home of Ashtanga Yoga. This is the traditional class format and the most effective method for developing a yoga practise.
Mysore Style is a self-paced class which continues on from Step 1. Here students with varying ranges of experience practise together, demonstrating regular and committed yoga practise and their ability to integrate new instructions under the guidance and encouragement of the teacher.
**Pre-requisite - Your ability to remember and work through the Ashtanga Yoga Shala Step 1 class sequence. If you're not sure your ready just ask us.
Please bring a towel to class and your own yoga mat if you have one. Mats are also available in class for hire and purchase. Mysore class students are encouraged to provide their own yoga mat.
Please read both the class information and payment options sections below before attending class.

Holds: For those times when you are tied up with work commitments, sickness or are going on holidays. If you are unable to attend class for a period of 1 week or more (max 3 months) you can apply to place a 'hold' on your pass. An administration fee of $10 per pass hold applies (maximum 1 hold per pass). Holds should ideally be arranged before you intend to be away from class. A 'hold' is a freeze on your pass whilst you are away. It is not an extension of its 4 or 8 week limit. On your return to class your pass will be re-activated and you will have the same number of weeks to complete your pass that were remaining on it at the time of the hold. The admin fee needs to be paid in full prior to your pass being reactivated. To arrange a hold please do so in class or via email. Please ensure that any “hold” is organised before your pass’s ‘expiry date’ otherwise it will be expire and be cancelled.
Please contact us if you need any more information.
